Many of you probably know from the influx of Facebook statuses all declaring it. But what is it about these different-colored Starbucks cups that makes us all go crazy with exhilaration?
I am not afraid to admit that I will forever fall into this Starbucks marketing ploy. The Red Cups mean so much more than coffee to me. I don’t go to Starbucks often (even though I live right above one) and if we are all being honest, their coffee isn’t the best that Portland has to offer. But when Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Gingerbread Lattes, and the Red Cups roll around every year, I get that rush of excitement.
Red Cups mean the changing of the seasons. That Thanksgiving and Christmas are fast approaching. It’s the passing of the weather torch, from Fall to Winter. The possibility of snow is here. Cold nights and warm beds. Red Cups means more family time, coffee dates with friends. Good food and warm drinks. Sweaters and boots, leggings and scarves. It means that everyone is a little more cheerful, for one reason or another.
Red Cup season always seems so magical. Maybe that’s why we all get excited when Starbucks rolls out the beloved cranberry-colored cups.
